CLASS 465
The Class 465 'Networker' was built by BREL in York and GEC Alsthom (Metro Cammell) as a replacement for the almost ancient VEPs and EBPs in 1992. They were built to be operated on lines for the South Eastern region of British Rail, and have remained there to this day. They have been operated by British Rail (under Network Southeast), Connex, South Eastern Trains, and Southeastern. They can be used on long, and short distance services. for example, they can work anything from a Londo-Hayes/Orpington to a London-Canterbury West via Ashford.
The term 'Javworkers' refer to the traction motors in 465/0s and 465/1s, as they are the same as found in a Hitatchi Javelin Class 395 unit. The remaining classes (465/2s and 465/9s) have Metro Cammell motors underneath them, so they are referred to as 'Met Cams'. |
